Asia-Pacific Design (APD in short) has been published by Sandu Cultural Media Co., Ltd. and Design 360o-Concelpt and Design Magazine together with the efforts’ famous designers all over the world since 2005. Hyuntae Kim
President of KIDP (Korea)

Mr. Hyuntae Kim is the 14th president of the Korea Institute of Design Promotion (KIDP), the oldest and most prestigious design organization, and the sole public design entity established and operating in Korea. The organization aims at promoting the design industry of Korea. Since Mr. Kim’s inauguration in 2009, KIDP has started a number of new projects to improve Korea’s design competitiveness and to strengthen relationships with the international design society. To name a few, ‘Internship Program’ which provides young and talented Korean designers opportunities to work abroad, ‘Design Sharing’ for the developing countries, ‘AT&D Korea’ to improve the national brand image, and ‘Design Information and Strategy Development’ to provide SMEs with the latest information on design trends. Mr. Hyuntae Kim was invited to speak on national design policies at the World Design Development (Beijing) Summit in October 2009. He often delivers lectures at universities and regional government offices to promote the importance of design at various levels of management. He stands in the vanguard of putting KIDP in line with the changes of the era.

Lawrence Chong
President of Designers Association Singapore (Singapore)

Lawrence Chong is the President of Designers Association Singapore, the nation’s only multi-disciplinary association founded in 1985. He is also the Chief Executive Officer of Consulus, a regional strategic brand consultancy with both business management and design consultancy. The company operates in Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, Vietnam, Philippines, China, India and USA. His comments and thoughts on design and branding have been featured in regional papers such as the Business Times Singapore, Marketing magazine, Saigon Times and on radio 938. Lawrence is a regular speaker and has presented to 3000 persons in countries such as the US, India, Malaysia, China, Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, Japan and Singapore.

Leslie Chan
Creative Director of Leslie Chan Design Co., Ltd.Honorable Director of Taiwan Poster Design Association (Taiwan)

Born in Hong Kong, he has made his career in Taiwan. Leslie Chan has received more than 400 Taiwan and international design awards include Grand Prix and Best of the Best Award at Reddot Design Award, Germany; The Major of the City of Brno Award at the 20th International Biennale of Graphic Design Brno, Czech; Grand Prize at the 5th Seoul Triennial Exhibition of Asia Graphic Poster, Korea; Grand Award and Gold Award at the 7th Associacao de Designers de Macau Competition, Macau ; The Outstanding Greater China Design Award; Judges Award and Sliver Awards at the Hong Kong Designers Association Adwards, Hong Kong. He also has design works selected in Warsaw, Chaumont, Lathi, Helsinki, Moscow, Mexico, Toyama, Colorado, Chicago and Tehran. He was invited by Hong Kong Radio and Hong Kong Design Center to be one of Eight Excellent Chinese Designers Abroad. Now, he is Honorable Director of Taiwan Poster Design Association.

Min Wang
Principal of China Central Academy of Fine Arts (Beijing)

Professor Min Wang is the Dean of School of Design at the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA). The Academy is one of the most prestigious and influential art school in China. Min Wang is also currently the Design Director for Beijing 2008 Olympic Games Committee. Min Wang is member of AGI (Alliance Graphique Internationale). Min Wang has been the Design Director at Square Two Design. Since 2004 Square Two Design has established its Beijing office. Min joined Square Two in 1998 after serving 8 years as Design Manager, Senior Art Director, Graphic Designer at Adobe Systems. Min Wang received MFA from Yale University School of Art in 1988 and he has been a visiting fellow in Germany at Akademe der Bildenden Kunste, Munich and Hochschule der Kunste, Berlin. In 1989, he began lecturing in graphic design at Yale University School of Art, teaching graduate students until 1997.
Min’s work has been exhibited internationally in showcases such as the Biennian of Graphic Design, Brno; Graphic Design Show in Beijing; Type Directors Club Exhibition in New York; Print Annual; and the International Poster Biennial Lahti and in the collection of Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe in Hamburg; Museum für Gestaltung Zürich. Min has been giving talks in the US, China, Japan, Korea and Malaysia, invited as judge for design competitions, and appointed Honorary Professor by Shanghai University, Fine Art College. Square Two Design clients include: Adobe, IBM, Intel, Netscape, Stanford University. In 2001, Min worked for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games Bid Committee.

Russell Kennedy 
President of Icograda (Australia)

Russell is a Senior Lecturer of Visual Communication at Monash University in Melbourne, Australia. He is an academic and practitioner of graphic design and filmmaking. Before joining Monash in 1994, he was the principal of Russell Kennedy Design, a corporate identity consultancy, and co-director of Onset Productions, a motion picture and documentary company.
Russell is a Fellow of the Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufacture and Commerce (RSA) and a member of both the Australian Graphic Design Association (AGDA) and the Design Institute of Australia (DIA). He is a Regional Ambassador to INDEX: ‘Design to Improve life’, the Danish Government’s International Award program and an advisor to the City of Seoul for the Seoul Design Olympiad.
Russell actively promotes a network interface between design education and the profession. He often assists education institutions within the Oceania/Asian region and has conducted workshops with the University of Hartford (Connecticut, United States), Hongik University (Seoul, Korea) and the International Design Center (Nagoya, Japan).
In June 2002, Russell was invited to speak on design education at the inaugural Icograda Education Network (IEN) Symposium in Brno, Czech Republic. Since joining the Icograda Board in 2003, he has been active in the development of the IEN and the deployment and promotion of worldwide educational exchange initiatives. Russell initiated INDIGO, Icograda’s international indigenous design network, launched in October 2007 at the Icograda General Assembly 22 in La Habana, Cuba.

Shao Longtu
Board Chairman of SHAW & SHAW (Shanghai)

Shao Longtu was born in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province in 1945. He graduated from Shanghai Light Industry College and now he is the chairman of SHAW & SHAW, a limited advertising corporation. He is also one of the main creators of the Shanghai 2010 World Expo mascot “Haibao”. He has conducted many successful advertisements and won many prizes for years. He published many influential books, like Wisdom Declaration, Virtual and Reality Interaction and Knowledge and Practice. He actively participates in social and academic activities and he has visited many countries like Japan, United States, France, Germany and Korea. He once had advanced study in Pace University in New York, USA. He is keen about design communication and education promoting, appointed as guest professor, part-time professor and lecturer of many universities such as Fudan University, Tongji University, Shanghai University and Shanghai Normal University.

Stanly Wong
Vice Chairman of Hong Kong Designers Association (Hong Kong)

Born in 1960, Hong Kong, he is known as Another Mountain Man. He was graduated from the Hong Kong Technical Teachers’ College (design and technology) in 1980. In 1996, he immigrated to Singapore and worked in Bartle Bogle Hegarty (Asia Pacific) Advertising Company as the Regional Creative Director, the first Chinese to undertake an overseas position. He returned to Hong Kong in 1999 as Chief Executive Officer and Executive Creative Director at tbwa (Hong Kong) advertising. After 15 years working in advertising industry, Stanley joined centro digital as chief creative officer and film director in 2000. Two years later, he set up threewoone film production limited. In 2004, Stanley was inducted into alliance graphique international (AGI), a prestigious institution whose membership comprised the most elite graphic designers from around the world. In the past ten years, his excellence has won himself over 400 awards in graphic design and advertising at home and abroad. In recent years, his works on redwhiteblue, depicting the spirit of Hong Kong using the ubiquitous tri-color canvas, have won critical acclaim both locally and internationally. In 2005, the work travelled to Venice represented Hong Kong at the 51st Venice Biennale.

Tommy Li
Creative Director of Tommyli Design Co., Ltd (Hong Kong)

Tommy Li is the branding designer for generation renowned for his “black humor” and “audacious visual” designs. Spanning Hong Kong, Japan, China and Italy, he is one of few designers to have penetrated the international market. He was honoured by Hong Kong Polytechnic University as Outstanding PolyU Alumni. In 2008, he established the first creative oriented web radio station “radio dada”. “Agosto”, a best-selling design magazine in Japan, has cited Tommy as the only graphic designer with potential to have an influential impact on Hong Kong in the next decade. Till 2010, he has won over 550 design awards all around the world and his design has been selected as the Top Ten Brand Design Company in China in 2009-2010.

Wang Shouzhi
Famous Design Theorist and Professor (America)

Being an expert of modern design history, Wang Shouzhi is one of the founders of China modern design education. Now, he is a tenured professor of Art Center College of Design, Pasadena, L.A. Besides, he is the sub-decanal of Cheung Kong School of Art and Design of Shantou University. Meanwhile, he shoulders the design history courses in some famous American design colleges, such as California Institute of the Arts, Valencia, Southern California Institute of Architecture, and University of Southern California.

Benny Au, Design Director of Amazing Angle Design. Founded miniminigallery in 2003 at design studio and aside from work, Benny is also devoted to curate exhibitions and seminars on design, photography and publications, including “SEVEN – showcase of top Japanese art directors” “Tokyo Type Directors Club Exhibition in Hong Kong” “Love from Hong Kong” at Tokyo Designers Week 2007, “Guest Exhibition of Shenzhen & Hong Kong Design 2009” etc. His designs are frequently awarded in Hong Kong and overseas and collected by many art galleries. Chris Lee
Creative Director of Asylum ( Singapore)

Chris Lee is the founder and Creative Director of Asylum, a highly respected creative company that uniquely comprises a design studio and a retail store. Since its inception in 1999, the creative company has focused on cross disciplinary projects that include interactive design, product development, environmental & interior design, packaging, apparel design, branding and graphic design. Asylum’s work in the creative industry is recognized with more than 70 international awards.
Featured in more than 30 international magazines from around the world, Asylum is defined as an unconventional maverick in the creative world. ICON UK magazine recently described Asylum as “probably the best design agency in Singapore today”.
Asylum’s retail component is a concept store that sells experimental music, books on culture and design, limited edition fashion products and contemporary art from designers. The store serves as a platform where designers can come together, exchange ideas and be inspired. This space has also hosted a series of free workshops where local and international luminaries have shared their passion.
Prior to his work at Asylum, Lee headed the design division in Bartle Bogle Hegarty Asia Pacific, and Ogilvy & Mather Singapore.

Geoff Cook
USA Partner of Base Design (USA)

BASE partner Geoff Cook leads the company’s New York studio and oversees all global external affairs for the company including large-scale business development and public relations. He partnered with Base in 1998 to open the New York studio, the company’s third studio in a group of five. Prior to BASE, Cook was a director at DKNY. This experience provided Cook a solid foundation in the branding of fashion and led BASE to clients including Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent Beauté, L’Oréal, Wrangler, PUMA, Fred Segal Beauty, and Kiki de Montparnasse. However, Cook’s broader interests and curiosity in other fields has made BASE one of the world’s most diverse branding agencies, working for prominent cultural institutions including MoMA QNS, the Palais des Beaux-Arts Brussels, and the Reina Sofia, political parties such as the Belgian and European Socialist Parties, and large corporations like Coca Cola and Johnson & Johnson. This year, BASE will execute its first project in China, as graphic director for 100% Design Shanghai, and will work with creative director Michael Young on the branding of the fair.
With the New York studio located on the border of Soho and Chinatown, most of Cook’s Chinese refers to various items on restaurant menus. He has also become increasingly proficient in his use of chopsticks.

Ian Lynam
Design Educator (Japan)

Ian Lynam is a graphic designer, writer and design educator living in Tokyo. He runs a multidisciplinary design studio that focuses on pan-cultural identity design, motion graphics, and editorial design. Based in Tokyo since 2005, his practice has created award-winning design work for a variety of cultural and commercial clients such as the Portland Documentary & Experimental Film Festival, Nike SB, Onitsuka Tiger, Asics, and Good Magazine.
Also an accomplished type designer, his Wordshape type foundry has recently completed a multiple-year project digitizing and reviving the lost work of 1930s type designer, Oswald Bruce Cooper. Available via MyFonts, the thirteen typefaces that comprise the body of work bring to light the originality of a period in American graphic design just prior to the invasion of Bauhaus-influenced modernist aesthetics. The typefaces’ release was paired with the publication of the definitive essay on the life and times of Cooper, titled “Heft, Gravy, and Swing” in Idea Magazine.
Lynam is co-founder of Néojaponisme, a critical cultural online journal. He writes regularly for a number of graphic design publications such as Idea, Font, Plazm, and Slanted. His most recent book is Parallel Strokes, an inquiry into the crossroads of graffiti and type design.

Jacky Lee
Chief Creative Director Of Idealine Design(Guang Zhou)

Jacky Lee, chief creative director of Idealine Design, is a famous Chinese enterprise brand design expert, one of National Top Ten Enterprise Logo Designers, Outstanding Youth of Chinese design industry, member of China Packaging Federation Design Committee, member of the standing committee of Guangdong Packaging Technology Association, Founder of Guangzhou Graphic Designer Association, Guangzhou Top Ten Graphic Designer and guest professor of Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts. He founded the “New Horizon” design crowds with his friends in 1988, first introducing CI strategy into business in mainland China. His famous design includes the brand identity system for Apollo, Robust, Li Ning and Kelon. He co-founded Guangzhou New Horizon Advertising Ltd in 1993 and Guangzhou Idealine Design Consultancy in 1998. His publications included New Design Studios, The Art of VI-Merchandise and Retail, Chinese Famous Design Agency: Idealine Design etc.

Jiang Hua
Designer, Lecturer of Central Academy of Fine Arts, Doctor, Member of AGI (Beijing)

As a designer, researcher, writer and curator, Jiang Hua & Li Degeng co-founded OMD Contemporary Design Terminal in 2007, they approaches design with multiple status, committing themselves to the research, practice and promotion of contemporary design. Jiang Hua’s research project of “MeiShuZi” (Chinese Modern Typography) explores design methodology under the context of Chinese characters. He is the curator of many influential design events in China including the Ningbo International Poster Biennial (IGDB), “TYPOSTER100” Typographic Poster Retrospective, “No Paper” Experimental Design Invitation Exhibition, “Social Energy: Contemporary Communication Design from the Netherlands” in 2008-2009, “Post__” Contemporary International Poster Retrospective, “Commun-” Hideki Nakajima Design Seminar and “Designing in China” in 2009.Jiang Hua received a doctor degree in design; he is also a Lecturer at Central Academy of Fine Arts and a member of AGI.

Joseph Foo
Creative Director of 3nity (Malaysia)

Joseph began his journey in the creative industry as a graphic designer. Having worked in the United States and Singapore, he returned to Malaysia and did a year’s stint with one of Malaysia’s leading design firms. He went on to establish trinity (3nity) with two other partners in 1996 and has since spearheaded his team towards making 3nity the multi-disciplinary brand identity consultancy it is today.His work has been rewarded in both local and international competitions. An active speaker and panelist, he has spoken at design seminars, workshops and dialogues held in and out of Malaysia and has recently judged the design category of Cannes Lions, Hong Kong Long Xi Awards and Malaysia very own Kancil Awards. He is sitting at the advisory board & guest lectures at Dasein Academy of Art, a leading art & design college in Kuala Lumpur. Beyond Malaysia, he teaches and conducts workshops at Beijing’s Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) and has spoken at Akademie Schloss Solitude (Stuttgart), Rangsit University (Bangkok), Temasek Polytechnic (Singapore), Shih Jian University (Taipei), Ning Bo University (Ning Bo), Tong Ji University (Shanghai), Ludong University (Shandong) and various design schools in Asia.
Pursuing his interest in exploring Asian thoughts and identity through graphic design, he co-founded Art4soul in 2000. A visual communicator whose interest and passion spans across various creative disciplines, he recently established a division named TriDi (3Di) that is dedicated to exploring product & furniture design.

Long Gang graduated from Arts Department of Guizhou University for Nationalities in 1994 and established Designdo Brand Design Consulting Organization in 2006. Now he is also Deputy Secretary-General of Shenzhen Graphic Design Association. In 1998, he was awarded Excellence Prize in HKDA Design 98 Show and Excellence Prize of logo for Taiwan Creative Graphic Arts. In 2000, he was awarded excellence prize of poster for HKDA Design 2000, and won gold prize for logo design and card design of Taipei International Visual Design Exhibition. In 2007, he was awarded silver prize for image design and bronze prize for poster design in 07 GDC - Graphic Design in China. In 2008, he received Excellence Award in the 5th Ningbo International Poster Biennial and in the Annual Awards of Tokyo Type Directors Club. In 2009, he was awarded excellence prize in the Annual Awards of Tokyo Type Directors Club, in the 11th National Art Exhibition, in HKDA Asia Design Awards, in Poster Design Exhibition in Celebration of the 10th Anniversary of Macau Handover, in Taiwan International Graphic Design Award Competition, and a silver prize and seven excellence prizes in 09 GDC - Graphic Design in China. Since 2001, his works have been exhibited all over the world, and have been collected in Design Museum of China, Hong Kong Cultural Museum and the Israel Museum. Long Gang is also the only Chinese designer selected by coexistence.

Wing Lau
Independent designer, Sessional tutor at the College of Fine Arts,UNSW (Australia)

Wing Lau is a designer from Hong Kong, residing in Australia and his design unit is based in Sydney since 2007. Through his conceptual, idea and content driven design unit, he aims to enhance the cultural sector of the community through a way of thinking and create works with aesthetic and conceptual integrity that last. Wing holds a bachelor of design degree with honors from the college of fine arts, UNSW. He was awarded the design merit certificate in 2007 for his graduation project and was the recipient of the Richard Dovey Medal of UNSW in 2008.
Since mid 2008, wing became an adjunct member of the college of fine arts; preformed as project research assistant as well as tutoring in design studios which focus on typography and compositions. He is much attached to bilingual typographic design with English and Chinese; this is the very specific design field that he has been researching into as an on-going project, originated from his honors research thesis.
Wing currently teaches at the College of Fine Arts of the University of New South Wales, Sydney.

Wu Yong 
Famous Designer, Dean & Professor & PhD Supervisor in Graphic Design Department of Cheung Kong School of Art & Design , Shantou University (Beijing)

Wu Yong, born in Wuhan, Hubei in 1965, received his bachelor degree from Book & Art Department, Central Academy of Art and Design in 1988, and master degree in art from Department of Decorative Art, School of Fine Arts, Tsing Hua University in 2008. He had once been the deputy director of the art department in China Youth Press and art advisor of United Nations Children’s Fund (China). He was also in the jury of many events including Kan Tai-Keung Design Award, Platinum Award and East + West Poster Design Exhibition. He is the member in Design Education Committee of China Association of Higher Education. He is also Dean, Professor and PhD Supervisor in Graphic Design Department of Cheung Kong School of Art & Design, and the member in Graphic Design Committee of China Artists Association. He lectures between cities and is the visiting professor in Design College of China Central Academy Of Fine Arts, School of Fine Arts of Tsing Hua University, Department of Decorative Art of Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology and Xihua University.
